Glastonbury 2011

So Glastonbury music festival has begun and by all accounts the festival goers have had a very muddy welcome. Site workers have been trying to siphon off and dry out the mud in the market areas near the Pyramid tent so that they be dry for the main event tomorrow.
For those of us who aren't able to be in the UK to attend,  you can actually watch or listen to a lot of it here
Or sign up for Sirius and get Radio 1 coverage in your car. For the official Glastonbury site with all the info visit here.
Here is a nice little video that some students from Southampton Solent University put up on YouTube of lots of people arriving at Worthy Farm, yesterday

If you are attending this year , post your pics on our Facebook page, as we would love to see them or tweet them to us @BritsinLA

New Royal Portrait for Diamond Jubilee

The portrait is to mark the forthcoming Diamond jubilee and was taken by German artist Thomas Struth The picture is to go on display tomorrow at the Scottish National Gallery as part of its touring exhibition The Queen: Art  and Image . The tour moves to Ireland at the end of the summer then on to Wales in February. I'm not sure whether I like it or not...I think I prefer the little more formal portraits of old. But I definitely prefer it over Chris Levine's "Lightness of Being" portrait that was unveiled in 2004 (see below)

Brucie Bonus!

At the age of 83 Bruce Forsyth has made the Queen's honours list and will be known as Sir Bruce!! He said he is 'honoured and relieved' . There have been campaigns and speculation over the years and when it was announced, he at first thought it was a hoax. I wonder if when the Queen taps him on the shoulder, she will utter the words "Nice to see you, to see you nice"
The list also see's Colin Firth and Bryan Ferry become CBEs
