Queen's Christmas day speech

Queen gives Christmas day speech
(AFP) – 45 minutes ago
SANDRINGHAM, United Kingdom — Queen Elizabeth II used her Christmas Day message Saturday to highlight the importance of sport as a way of building communities, 19 months ahead of the London Olympic Games.
In her traditional televised address to the nation, which is regularly watched by millions of Britons celebrating Christmas at home, the monarch pointed to October's Commonwealth Games as an example of how sport unites people.
"During this past year of abundant sporting events, I have seen for myself just how important sport is in bringing people together from all backgrounds, from all walks of life and from all age groups," the 84-year-old said.
The queen celebrated Christmas with her family at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, and about 1,000 people turned up on a frosty Christmas morning to see the royals as they went to church.
However, they were denied sight of Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton, who announc…

ME, AS A PENGUIN

Image
British Actor and CO-Founder of Brits in LA  Craig Robert Young is in rehearsals right now for a play called 'Me, As A Penguin' which opens Jan 14th, 2010 at the LOST Studio Theatre on La Brea, It's a really funny play set in Hull (Yes, the north) written by new playwrite Tom Wells - He's only 24. The play got great reviews in London and will be making it's US debut here. The play also stars fellow Brit Jamie Donovan. Review from Time out- Wells's debut play is a slight, surreal, thoroughly charming piece, a cuss-word-free throwback to a gentler era that's just weird enough to hold its own in the badlands of 2010. Barely out of the closet, timid young knitting enthusiast Stitch has quit his quiet hometown to explore the Hull gay scene and crash with sister Liz. But boozy sexual encounters aren't really him: he was happier back home, and eventually he accepts this.  Ticket details to follow.

REVIEW -  PACIFIC FESTIVAL BALLET'S 17TH ANNUAL PRODUCTION OF 'THE NUTCRACKER'
Who said there is no good theatre in L.A.? OK so it's not known for a theatre going town, but recently I've seen some really good productions, There was the Lythgoe Family Panto of 'Cinderella', The disturbingly fantastical 'Next To Normal' at The Ahmason and this past weekend I drove an hour north on the 101 - In the rain to see the Pacific Festival Ballet's production of 'The Nutcracker.' at Thousand oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
Firstly this was my first ever Ballet, and secondly the first time I had seen The Nutcracker. Overall I was blown away by the cast especially the guest artists from new York City ballet, Tiler peck and Gonzalo Garcia who were exquisite as The sugar plum Fairy and the Sugar plum Cavalier respectively. In the 800 sold out theatre, the audience cheered with excitement at every pirouette. I don't know the exact number in the cast but I haza…

Victoria Boohoos as Becks accepts

Image
Victoria Beckham was reduced to tears last night as her husband David was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at BBC's Sports Personality of the Year. The mail reports
The former Spice Girl struggled to contain herself as she sat with the couple's three sons Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight and four-year-old Cruz and Beckham's mother Sandra. A clearly emotional Beckham also found it difficult not to cry as he thanked Victoria and their sons for their support over the years. He said: 'Of course, I want to thank my wife and my children. Not only has she given me three amazing boys but the support she's given me and she is truly and inspiration for me every single day. So Victoria, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz - thank you.'

Eileen gets a Brazilian Blowout

Image
I have been reading about "the Brazilian Blowout" for several months now. As someone with naturally wavy (frizzy!) hair, this sounded like the perfect solution for me. But reports of formaldehyde in the treatment and of course the price made me a little apprenhensive.... Then I saw new Brit salon Galvin Benjamin were not only giving BLA members 50% off but were also offering a truly formaldehyde free version!! I got the treatment done a few days ago by the lovely Leanne Galvin and I can't tell you how happy I am. For the first time in my life I have naturally smooth and shiny hair. The process doesn't take too long, perhaps an hour or so. This is apparently lasts for 10-12 weeks and I think will shave at least half hour off my day.  The other great thing about it is that if you feel like having curls or waves for the day you still can, but the frizziness has gone! The biggest bonus of all is that my colour treated, neglected hair is actually in better condition than …
